Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) about taking a Guided Fly Fishing Trip with High Flying Flies
Absolutely not! We can start at the beginning. I love teaching people to fly fish. Whether or not you take just a couple hour lesson or a full-day trip, you definitely will learn a lot and be able to enjoy your time on the water.
We fish in all weather condition, except lightning. Please check the weather prior to your trip and wear the appropriate layers. A lot of the best fishing happens in inclement weather.
All you need is your TN Fishing License and any special drinks, food, or medicine needed. Everything else needed for our time on the water is provided. You can purchase your license prior to your trip online at https://www.gooutdoorstennessee.com/
Yes, we require a $100 deposit at the time of booking to reserve your trip date. This can be paid by Venmo, Square, Zelle, or card over the phone. Your remaining balance will be due at the end of your fly fishing trip.
You can cancel and receive your deposit back if you contact us at least 30 days or more before your trip. Under 30 days we will gladly reschedule your trip to another available date, but your deposit is no longer refundable. Two weeks or closer to your trip date, the full trip balance will be due.
No, you don’t. All fly fishing gear needed for the day will be provided. Including: Fly rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippet, and tons of flies.
Sorry, but High Flying Flies practices strictly catch and release fishing. I depend on these fish to help keep making successful trips happen.
We have trip options that range from $250 to $500. From lessons to full-day trips. All trips include everything needed for a great time on the river.
The start of the South Holston river is just over 8 miles (17 minutes) from the downtown area. The Watauga river is about 21 miles (30 minutes) from downtown.
Unfortunately, that is part of fishing. These 2 rivers are both very humbling, even to the experienced angler. The truth is that very rarely happens though. If you trust the process and fish hard, we should be able to make it happen. Worst case scenario is no fish are boated… but we are guaranteed to learn a lot, see some beautiful river scenery, and make some memories.
